Joseph Christian Leyendecker was an American (born in Montabaur,
Germany) illustrator who drew posters, book illustrations, and
advertisements. Between 1896 and 1950 Leyendecker painted
more than 400 magazine covers. He is considered one of the most
outstanding illustrators of the early 20th century.
