Gheorghe Tattarescu, Hagar in the Desert 1870.
Gheorghe Tattarescu was a Romanian painter. He first studied with his
uncle, who was a church painter, then moved with him to Buzau, where
he studied at the local painting school. There, through his uncle's
connections, he met the Orthodox bishop Cesarius Capatana, who
helped him obtain a scholarship to the Accademia di San Luca
(Academy of St. Luke) in Rome.
